The mission of Take A Stand Against Elder Abuse is to raise funds to help support and sustain a stable level of services for Sacramento County’s frail elders and dependent adults with disabilities. Our goal is to heighten public awareness about the service needs of seniors and adults with disabilities, and to undertake multiple efforts to raise funds to meet those needs.
TASAEA wants the needs of frail elders and adults with disabilities to be recognized. Irregardless of our stellar accomplishments in life, we will all grow older; we are all subject to lose our independence and may need to depend upon the kindness of others for survival. In Sacramento County an estimated 75 % of elder abuse victims have major health problems. Take A Stand Against Elder Abuse supports the programs of Senior and Adult Services which are mandated to help this population to remain safe and comfortable in their own homes as long as possible.
The 2007 Sacramento Elder Walk, “Step Towards a New Day" (S.T.A.N.D.) will take place at the Sacramento Zoo and William Land park on November 3, 2007. Supporters are needed to sponsor teams, booths, raffles, games, food, entertainment, and t-shirts.

The Super Centenarians Support our team as we “Step Towards a New Day” at the 2007 Sacramento Elder Walk. Super centenarians are persons who have attained the grand age of 110 years or older. We have at least two in Sacramento County; Mother Ruby Muhammad and George Francis. You don’t have to be a super centenarian to join our team, just young at heart! |
| Healthy Living Did you know that 75 percent of the reports of abuse received by Sacramento County Adult Protective Services involve persons with major health problems? Bionics The melding of human and machine. We’ll be there in force with our walkers, wheelchairs, canes and crutches to put a face to the issue of elder and dependent adult abuse, so please support us as we wheel and rock around the block for elder and disabled services. |
| Firefighters and Law Enforcement We often collaborate with Adult Protective Services and coordinate our response/interventions because it really does take a whole community to protect our elders and dependent adults from abuse and neglect. We are your trusted public servants, please support our team as we volunteer our time to Step Towards a New Day at the 2007 Sacramento Elder Walk. |

Banks and Credit Unions Effective January 2007, under the new law, Senate Bill 1018, employees of financial institutions are required to report suspected financial abuse. “Advanced age and accumulated assets makes seniors a tempting target,” says Senator Simitian, co-author. We ask that you support our Elder Walk team as we Take a Stand Against Elder Abuse. |
| The Community Housing Coalition The Community Housing Coalition was formed in November 1999. It consists of over 30 community-based organizations, service clubs, government agencies, and utilities that collaborate in an effort to support low-income at-risk seniors in remaining safe in their own homes. Please join us as we support Take a Stand Against Elder Abuse and help raise funds to sustain and support the programs of the Senior and Adult Services Division of Sacramento County, a founding member of the Housing Coalition. |
